Hungry? Come to the Big Eat at Denver’s Union Station May 27th

If you missed this last year – make sure and buy your tickets early this year for the 2nd annual Big Eat.  Last year’s event sold out with lots of hungry people waiting for this year’s event!

The Big Eat is a fun day of sampling food and drinks from Denver’s best restaurants all in a circus-like atmosphere.  It features over 36 restaurants, 3 breweries and four wineries – all for your sampling enjoyment.  Starting at 2pm, $25 gets you admission and food – drinks are available for $5 each at the event.  Children 2 and under are free.  Live music by Marty Jones and the Great Unknowns and the Highland Ramblers will keep you entertained while you imbibe.

Takes place at Union Station – at the corner of Wewatta and 16th street.  Mark your calendars now – and purchase your tickets early!

Now’s the time for you do to something good for your car and your community.  This is a fund raising event for Safehouse Denver, a program & shelter which helps victims of domestic violence.  Every penny raised at this event will go to Safehouse Denver — the goal this year is to raise $100,000.  You can help them reach their goal.

Family Fun Festival – Today, Sunday, May 20

Families with newborn to age 8 are invited to the FREE Celebrate Family Festival today – Sunday, May 20. The festival includes FREE games and activities, a petting zoo, from 10:30am to 2:30pm at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center. The festival is filled with FREE activities and games, live music, a petting zoo, train rides, bounce castles, and more! (Tickets will be sold for some activities.) If you have a bike you don’t need, bring it to donate to the bike swap at the festival or buy a refurbished one.

Baby Boomer & Senior Yoga for Health – Sundays, 3 to 4:15pm – $8 per Class

This is a weekly workshop that meets every Sunday.  Participants learn the health benefits of yoga in age and how to increase flexibility, improve strength and balance, maintain healthy joints, build bone and muscle, prevent osteoporosis and reduce stress.  The workshop is taught by a retired physician and certified instructor trained at Duke Integrative Medicine in therapeutic yoga for seniors

Don’t miss a Free Movie – “A Bug’s Life” today at the National Wildlife Refuge

The National Wildlife Refuge is just 10 minutes from downtown Denver in Commerce City – it’s home to more than 330 species of wildlife including bison, bald eagles, deer and burrowing owls.  There are nature programs and tons of walking trails.  And on Sundays, after you’ve walked the trails of the habitat, enjoy a nature matinee on the big screen in the Visitor Center’s state-of-the-art auditorium.

Movies are FREE and no reservations are required.  Today’s feature is A Bug’s Life. “Journey inside the world of bugs in an epic adventure of miniature proportions.  This Walt Disney Pixar animation is crawling with imaginative characters, hilarious laughs and colorful animation.”

For all you Science Buffs and Eclipse Lovers – View the Solar Eclipse Safely at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science – Sun, May 20, 6pm until Sunset – Free

Join Museum scientists and educators in the West Atrium and City Park for the chance to safely observe America’s first central eclipse of the 21st century and the first annular eclipse of the sun since 1994. Solar telescopes will be available along with other safe viewing methods.

This event is FREE. Please enter through the entrance on the west side of the Museum.

Free mulch for Douglas County Residents today – May 19th

If your are a Douglas County resident you are invited to pick up free mulch while supplies last on May 12 & May 19th.  Pick up location is at the Castle Rock Water

A front-end loader will be provided by the County  to help load mulch into pickups and trailers.

The mulch is 100% recycled tree trimmings and other brush clearings delivered to Douglas County’s slash collection sites by residents during the summer months.

In the case of inclement weather, please check Douglas County’s Website or call 303-663-6274 to ensure that mulch pick up will still occur as scheduled.
